Two Friendswood High School senior art students had western artwork chosen for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art auction, which took place on March 15, at the NRG Center in Houston. The works of Blake Davis and Daria Baranova were selected by professional artists from more than 300,000 pieces of art from Houston and the surrounding area schools.
Both art pieces were auctioned for $22,000, so Davis and Baranova will receive a minimum of $5,000 for their outstanding artwork, according to FHS art teacher Jan Nemitz.
“Davis’ piece is a beautifully drawn horse and Daria’s is the Brahman cow, which was raised in our own FFA barn,” Nemitz said. “Congratulations to both of these students for their outstanding efforts and hard work.”
The FHS art department held a Rodeo Art Open House and had more than 1200 visitors attend.
“We appreciate the support of our art department – Also, thanks to so many of you who attended the rodeo, which is totally run by over 31,000 volunteers for the purpose of supporting students with scholarship money to further their education;” Nemitz said.
