2 Teens Spreading J.O.Y.

Two freshman cheerleaders at Friendswood High School founded J.O.Y. in the fall of 2013. Claire Kitchel and Taylor Rudell had a desire to help less fortunate teens in the Houston area. Through this vision, J.O.Y. was created…JOINING OUR YOUTH.

Since 2013, they have collected items for Covenant House Houston, a shelter for homeless teens.

Each fall, they hold a coat drive at their school. Students are encouraged to donate new or gently used coats, toiletry items, and gift cards. “The support of this program has grown each year! Last year we were able to deliver 7 large boxes of donations to Covenant House”, said junior Claire Kitchel.

This year they hope to collect even more donations and shed light on how important it is to give back to the community. “Most importantly, we want teens to know that WE can make a difference for kids our own age, Kitchel said.

The drive will be held at FHS, November 18th through December 8th.
