9 FHS students participate in Exxon Mobil Texas Science, Engineering Fair

Nine students from Friendswood High School participated in the Exxon Mobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio, Texas from March 21- 23, 2014. Each student participated in three science fairs in order to reach the State Science Fair and they all represented themselves and Friendswood High School proudly, according to sponsor Rebecca Clark.
The 1300 participating students at the fair represented 12 regional fairs from across Texas.
The FHS nine students include the following: Daniel Bellian, Physics, ìMagnetic Amplification of a TEA Laser;î Crystal Chacko, Earth Space Science, ìFingerprint of Deuterium;î Jamie McCullough, Physics, ìHarnessing the Fire;î Aditya Mohile, Physics, ìTechnology with Zero Resistance;î Neha Narayan, Biochemistry, ìHeavenly Hash Hastens Healing;î Sarah Palmer, Engineering, ìWatts in the Wind/Water II;î Roma Pradhan, Computer Science, ìTrain the Artificial Brain II;î and Shanika Silva, Mathematics, ìGenetic Forecast 2.î
Friendswood Junior High Student, Jared Janak also participated in the Junior division Science Fair.
The following students received awards from Special Awarding Agencies: Crystal Chacko- Association of Women Geoscientists Award; Shanika Silva- Council of Texas Statisticians Award; Roma Pradhan- INTEL Excellence in Computer Science Award; and Jamie McCullough- Office of Naval Research Award.
The following students won Category Place awards: Sarah Palmer, Engineering, 1st place; Karan Jerath, Environmental Management, 1st place; Shanika Silva, Mathematics, 3rd place; Aditya Mohile, Physics, 2nd place; and Jamie McCullough, Physics, 5th place.
Grand Award Winner is Roma Pradhan who won the Second Place Grand Award for the Physical Science Category.
Aditya Mohile, Karan Jerath, Sarah Palmer and Roma Pradhan qualified and were invited to attend the week long Governors Science and Technology Champions Academy to be held June 16-20 at the University of Houston. www.tech.uh.edu/gstca

Jamie McCullough and Roma Pradhan will continue on to the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Los Angeles, CA from May 11-16, 2014 after qualifying at the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston in March.
