Culinary students get hands-on experience

Friendswood High School Culinary Arts students were invited to tour Tin Roof BBQ recently. The owners walked the students through the kitchen showing them the basics of how to run a BBQ company.

“We had such a great time,” said Melissa Schwartz, culinary arts teacher. There is no better way to learn than to get students in real-life situations and have them experience the restaurant industry first hand.” Students watched how to operate and clean the smokers, the importance of knowingthe flavors that come from different types of wood and how to monitor the internal temperature of meat.
