FHS students place at Galveston County Science, Engineering Fair

Science students at Friendswood High School recently placed at the Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair. All students who placed first, second, or third also received cash awards.

In Plant Science, Crystal Chako placed first in the Senior Division and Andrew Cianciolo placed first in the Freshman Division with an Honorable Mention in the Overall 9th Grade Division. Mackinnon Westerfeld placed first in the Senior Division and Kevin Westerfeld placed second in that division.

In Microbiology, Neha Narayan placed first in the Senior Division and

Lauren Goolsby placed second in the 9th Grade Division.

Brian Ninan placed first in Biochemistry 9th Grade Division and Vasu-Sidhan Poore placed third in the same division.

In Earth and Planetary Science Senior Division, Joshua Gruener placed third.

In Computer Science, Aditya Mohile placed first in the Senior Division and second Overall Senior Division along with the United States Naval Award. Jaden Walker placed first in Computer Science 9th Grade Division and third Overall 9th Division.

Sarah Palmer earned a first place in Engineering Senior Division and third place Overall Senior Division.

In Mathematics Senior Division, Shanika Silva won first place as well as first place Overall Senior Division with US Naval Award, UTMB Sigma Xi Award, and Dr. Allen and Anne Brasher Award. Thomas Nagle won second place in the Mathematics Senior Division and Honorable Mention Overall Senior Division.

Karan Jerath placed second place in Energy and Transportation Senior Division and alternate for the TAMUG $2500 scholarship.

In Environmental Science Senior Division, Elizabeth Westerfeld placed third and Nick Jeffcoat earned Honorable Mention.

Yuqi Xu earned Honorable Mention in Medicine and Health Senior Division.

The next science fair for the FHS students will be the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston.
