FHS Wind Ensemble National Winner

The Foundation for Music Education has announced that the Friendswood High School
Wind Ensemble is a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band
Honors Project. In this project, the top quarter are selected as National Winners and the
2nd quarter as Commended Winners. This year, 229 ensembles representing six
classifications from 36 states entered the competition.



In addition to the entire band being recognized, Chris Chao (clarinet), and Cameron
Roberts (Oboe), were selected as Outstanding Soloists. Congratulations to these fine
graduates of FHS. Chris Chao was a Four-Year All-State Musician and Cameron Roberts
was a Two-Year All-State Musician.

The pieces entered by the Friendswood High School Wind Ensemble from last year
included Masquerade Overture by Carl Nielsen and Don Juan by Richard Strauss. These
were recorded at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest last April in Pearland.
