FISD students take first, second, eighth in County Spelling Bee

Two students in Friendswood ISD placed at the Zone 3/Galveston County Regional Spelling Bee held at McAdams Junior High in Dickinson ISD Feb. 18.

Tanya Roysam earned first place in the bee. Roysam is a 7th grade student at Friendswood Junior High. She received a large trophy and will advance to the next level, a city bee, the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee in March.

Marshall Prince, fifth grade student at Windsong Intermediate placed second. Third grade student at Cline Elementary, Baileigh Burtis placed eighth at the regional bee.

The County Bee had 19 area elementary and junior high champs competing to advance to the next level. The participants were from both Galveston and Chambers Counties.

The Houston Public Media Spelling Bee will take place March 28, 2015. The top two spellers of the bee will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, May 24-29, 2015 in the Washington, D.C. area.

Friends and supporters of Roysam can watch her compete since the Houston Bee will be televised LIVE on TV Channel 8 Saturday March 28 at 2 pm.

At regional competition, the winning word for Roysam was plicated at the end of the 28th round.
