With graduation a month away, the Top 10 Friendswood High School students have been named. The Friendswood Chamber of Commerce honored the group for their academic success on Thursday, April 27, at the Green Event Center. Valedictorian for the Class of 2017 is Andrew Chen.
He will be attending the University of Texas at Austin this fall to major in Business. Chen enjoys playing sports like basketball and tennis but has been a leader in the school’s Recycling Club for three years. Chen is an AP Scholar with distinction and a member of the National English, National Spanish, and National Honor Societies.
Yuqi Xu is the FHS Salutatorian.
She will attend Rhode Island School of Design and major in Apparel Design. She was recently named Miss FHS by the senior class. Xu is a National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar and National Honor Society member.
Stephen Du is third in the Top 10. Du plans to pursue a major in Business and “use the skills learned there to replace Mark Cuban on Shark Tank”. He was a member of the 2016 Varsity Basketball team, President of the Math and Science Club, National Merit Commended Finalist and Summa Cum Laude on National Latin Exam.
Yazeed Radwan hopes to pursue a career in the medical field by majoring in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Computer Science and will be attending the University of California Los Angeles in the fall. He is a National Merit commended, Ap Scholar with distinction, received a Gold Medal on the National Latin Exam and won 1st place in Latin Vocabulary at the state competition.
Christine Nguyen will attend The University of Texas at Austin to major in Biology. At FHS, she was a National Merit Finalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Nguyen placed 3rd in the state HOSA Dental Terminology competition and went on to place 3rd in the same event at the Nation competition. Nguyen speaks three languages and loves playing the ukulele and guitar in her free time.
Anton Chen is planning to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston. She is passionate about helping others and volunteers at the Red Cross Organization. She believes that with a positive attitude and diligent work ethic, one can work through any obstacle.
Christy Fong will attend the University of Texas at Austin to study Chemical Engineering. She is a member of the All-Region Choir, a three-year UIL Solo and Ensemble state medalist, two-year HOSA state qualifier and three-time UIL Calculator Applications District Champion.
Sarah Palmer will attend Purdue University in the fall. She is a four-year marching band member and regionally ranked bassoonist. She advanced to the Texas State Science Fair all 4 years and qualified her senior year as a finalist for the International Sustainable World Energy Engineering and Environment Project Olympiad. She also will be competing in both international science fairs this May, which takes place in Los Angeles California.
