The Friendswood High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Awards, who will be honored at a special event on Thursday, Oct. 19, in conjunction with Friendswood High School’s homecoming activities. The 2017 recipients are Josh Rogers (1994), Matt Taylor (1975) and Georgeanne McLean Warnock (1994). The Dr. Myrlene Kennedy Honorary Alumni Award will be presented to longtime FISD employees, Marilyn and Ed Beken.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards recognize Friendswood High School graduates who have demonstrated exemplary performance and made significant accomplishments in their professional career or have made significant contributions in the area of philanthropy and/or public service.
“We are thrilled to be honoring these outstanding individuals, and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments,” said Judy Ballard Connors, President of the FHS Alumni Association. “All of them have made such significant contributions to their communities that will last for many years. The Association, FISD and our community are all so proud of their achievements in their personal and professional lives.”
Josh Rogers has made public safety and community service his life’s work. An 18-year veteran of the Friendswood Police Department, Rogers has served in numerous positions throughout his career.
Matt Taylor spent more than three decades serving and protecting the United States as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Georgeanne McLean Warnock serves as the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services for Carrolton-Farmers Brand ISD near Dallas.
Honorary Alumni recipients Marilyn and Ed Beken invested in FISD since the moment they arrived in Friendswood in 1965. Both Marilyn and Ed served in various positions within Friendswood schools for more than 40 years.
“As a proud member of the FHS class of 1986, I am looking forward to celebrating this group of honorees,” said Thad Roher, FISD Superintendent. “Mustang pride runs deep in all of us, and these men and women exemplify the traits that create the tradition of excellence at FHS that we all cherish. We appreciate the Alumni Association for recognizing these fine individuals and for all that the organization does to keep Mustang Pride alive and well.”
