Local teen wins 2015 World Championship in Flyboarding

Hunter Verlander of Friendswood,Texas and a member of Team Aquafly based out of Austin, Texas has been crowned the 2015 XDubai Flyboard® World Champion. Forty-Two of the world’s top Hydroflight Athletes converged on Dubai, UAE December 3-5, 2015 to show the world their outstanding talents during the World Cup sponsored by XDubai. H2RO Magazine had Hunter Verlander ranked as the 4th top athlete in the world going into the event behind his teammates Damone Rippy (#1) and Jake Orel (#3) but Hunter’s dedication over the summer since the last International Event (The 2015 North American Flyboard Championship where he placed 3rd) catapulted him above not only his own teammates, but every other flyer in the world.

His aggressive style and commanding presence on the water is in direct conflict to the chill and quiet kid that passes through the halls of Friendswood High School during the week. But on the weekends, after enduring the trip to Austin on Friday night, he lights up the water to pursue his passion at the Aquafly training grounds in Lakeway, Texas. Returning to Friendswood late on Sunday evening he rinses and repeats on most weekends of the year.
