Presenting….the WIZARD of OZ


FHS Theatre’s fall production is the beloved family musical adventure, The Wizard of Oz.It plays in the FHS Auditorium October 3, October 5 and 12 at 7 pm and  October 6 and 13 at 2:30 pm. 

Fly over the rainbow with Dorothy as she rides a twister into the merry and troubled land of Oz and learns that no matter how far  journeys take people–there’s no place like home.

Kathy Powdrell will direct the story she calls the most-loved American fairytale. Powdrell is assisted by drama teachers Amy Thornton and Colin David. 

Technical effects include flying effects by ZFX Flying. The production includes choreography by student Julia Conger assisted by Audrey McKee. 

Senior Mitchell Mills leads the way as scenic designer with assistance from Technical Theatre Classes.

Lighting crew and robotics are under the direction of student Brian Ciancelo with assistance from professional designer, Al Williams. 

Additional costume design by Custom Costume and parent volunteers.  Senior Samantha Brown provides sound design.   Among the large cast of nearly 80 actors who will be playing the 80 characters is senior acting student Samantha McHenry who will play Dorothy. 

Senior Dylan Dickens will play the Cowardly Lion, Senior Jordan Pike playswill  be the Tin Woodman, and SeniorMax Bowen  plays Scarecrow.  Senior Jenny Plackemeier  is featured as Glinda Good Witch of the North and Senior Tatum Garvin is featured as Wicked Witch of the West. 

          Other FHS cast members are senior Troy Beckman as Wizard of Oz,  senior Nathaniel Williams as Uncle Henry, and Natasha Wroblewski as Aunt Em.

Setting this show apart is the role Mrs. Gulch. This role will beplayed by FHS Faculty Diane Hanegan, Mary Rinehart, Pepper Smith and Amy Thornton,

The Munchkins are led by Bryan Chew, Nathan Drake, Noel Zoch, Danielle Hernandez, Brie Sharp and Caroline Bizzaro.

FHS has cast 40 FISD third through seventh graders as Munchkins.

Junior, John Yawn leads the Winkies and Caleb Petty and Owen O’Neill leads the Flying Monkeys.

The backstage crew is lead by Trey Hamby and isassisted by Michael Otto.

Costume crew is lead by Emily McMahon and Meryl Sager.

Tickets are $10 at the door.  FHS does not pre-sell or sell tickets online.

Written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, was thefirst totally American fantasy for children and one of the most-read children’sbooks (according to the Library of Congress). 

The 1939 film starring Judy Garland was nominated for six Academy Awards but lost Best Picture to Gone with the Wind.

It did win Best Original Song for Over the Rainbow which nearly didn’t make it into the final cut.The film was reintroduced to the public with annual broadcasts that began in1956 earning it the title "most-watched motion picture in history!"
