Denise L. Ruiz has become a familiar face to FISD. She recently became a board member again for a third time after a swearing-in ceremony during a special meeting on June 20, 2018.
Ruiz replaced Matt Robinson, M.D. who stepped down from his role as a board member after ten years and will continue his service to education by running as the Republican candidate for District 7 of the State Board of Education. “Dr. Robinson’s contributions to FISD are immeasurable, and we applaud his decade of dedication and service,” said Board President Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg. “On behalf of the board and FISD, I want to thank him for his leadership and professionalism.”
Ruiz originally served one term as a board member in Position 7 from 2006-2010 and this is her second time to fill in as interim member for FISD. She filled in for Mike Shaw after he retired from the board in May of 2016. “We are grateful to have Denise step back in as interim,” said Hillenburg. “She has served Friendswood for years in various roles and we welcome her back on our team.”
Ruiz and her husband have three sons Luis (32), Michael (30) and Matthew (26).
