Three FHS Students Part of International Percussion Competition

FHS students Steven Pitts a tenor player, Max Conrad a snare player and Blake Stanfield amulti-percussionist returned with their group Lone Star Independent Percussion Ensemble with a 1st place at Winter Guard International competition in Dayton, Ohio, April 11th and 12th.  This group consists of 29 percussionistfrom across the state (including these local high school’s Pearland, Dawson, Dobie, Clear Lake, Deer Park, Elkins) –as well as college students from the Austin and Dallas areas. After auditions in November2013, this ensemble of fine musicians under the direction of Michael Cury to started practicing their show “Shifted Mechanics” in December 2013. They  went on to win Regional’s, State and then World competition at Dayton in Independent A Class  level this year. The group dedicated 22 hours every weekend to rehearsals so that they could be the best that they could be. All while staying dedicated to their school work, high school band and college workload. It all paid off while beating out 25 other ensembles to bring home the gold medal!
