FHS Wranglerettes raise $13,597.20 for St. Judes,
Named top fundraising team, best shirt design
The Wranglerettes at Friendswood High School were surprised to see a representative from St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in the audienceat one of their major competitions recently. The representative watched threehours of performances and then had more good news to give them.
Notonly were the FHS girls the Top Fundraising Team for the hospital but they werealso the top for the past five years with only one other higher than they were six years ago beating them.
“This was great news and we were so happy to be part of a group that gives to such a worthy cause,” team director Ashley Marmaro said.
The Wranglerettes raised $13,597.20 for the hospital through donations and also earned $3,000 through tee shirt sales.
The tee shirt part of the community spirit project was also a winner. The Wranglerettes received an award for Best Tee-Shirt Design with their Kick Cancer shirts.
The donation project began in the fall and culminated in the annual walk held this year in late November. Donors have continued to give through the Wranglerettes’ website.
St. Jude supporters in the Houston community and in 75 cities nationwide joined together on November 23 for the St. Jude Givethanks. Walk. to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The FHS Wranglerettes, with their friends and families, braved a very cold and rainy early Saturday morning to help St. Jude change the way the world treats childhood cancer.
