BPA students place, advance to State competition

Both individual and team entries from Friendswood High School placed at the Business Professionals of America regional competition Jan. 19. All students who placed will be gong to the state competition in February.

Seven BPA students won first place in their categories. Caitlin Pray won first in Desktop Publishing; David Price and Addison Cobb both won in Fundamental Accounting; Dylan Dickens received first place in Interview Skills and Marisa Huerta was first in Keyboarding Production. Brittany Cumming won first place in Payroll Accounting; Shanika Silva won in Prepared Speech and John Wilkinson won in Presentation Management.

Hailey Sheridan won second place in individual events for Fundamental Spreadsheet. Tanna Deckard won third place in Fundamental Work Processing and Lisa Harrinton won third in Advanced Spreadsheet.

Jose Rodriguez won sixth place in Extemporaneous Speech and Jim Bockmon won sixth in Medical Office Procedures.

In Team Events, two teams won first place and one received third place. The Broadcast News Team of Audra Bridges, Peter Rodriguez, Sheryl Mathew and Wade McCormack placed first. The Parliamentary Procedure Team of Dylan Dickens, Jim Bockmon, Jose Rodriquez and Lisa Harrington received first place.

The Administrative Support Team of Caitlin Pray, Hailey Sheridan, Marisa Huerta, and Tanna Deckard received third place.“Thank you to all of those teachers who helped critique various students prior to the competition.  This input and suggestions helped these students succeed,” BPA sponsor Lisa Sargent said.
