Swimming and Diving Championship Meet
7 New Pool Records Set
1 New Mustang Record Set

The District 23-4A swimming and diving championship meet was held on January 30th and February 1st with the following teams participating: Barbers Hill, Friendswood, Galena Park, Galveston Ball, Glenda Dawson and Texas City.  Friendswood’s Lady Mustangs won the meet with a total of 240 points while Glenda Dawson’s girls placed second with 104 points and Galveston Ball’s girls placed third with 47.  The Lady Mustangs won 9 out of the 11 swimming events and also captured the gold in the 1 meter diving.  The Friendswood Mustangs also won the meet with a total of 243 points.  Glenda Dawson’s boys placed second with 143 points while Galveston Ball’s boys placed third with 44 points.  The Mustangs won all 11 of the swimming events and also captured the gold medal in the 1 meter diving.

During the diving portion of the meet held on January 30th, Rachel Wright of Friendswood set a new pool record for the Girl’s 1 Meter Diving event scoring a total of 315.05 point for her 11 dives performed.

During the swimming portion of the meet held February 1st, 6 new pool records were set.  The Lady Mustangs started the meet by setting a new pool record for the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.38.  Swimming on the relay were Cassie Nagle, Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati and Sadie Wilson.  Daniel Theall set a new pool record in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with at time of 1:58.42.  Glenda Dawson’s Catherine Wu set 2 new pool records during the meet.  In the 100 Yard Butterfly Catherine set a record of 58.92 and in the 100 Yard Backstroke she set a record of 58.94.  Matt Wall of Friendswood swam the 100 Yard Freestyle in 48.47 setting a new pool record for that event.  The Lady Mustang team of Sydney Gurry, Heidi Henricks, Gina Fossati and Sadie Wilson set a new pool record for the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:43.04.  During the swimming competition 1 Mustang team record was also set.  Daniel Theall set a new Mustang team record for the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.43.

Catherine Wu of Glenda Dawson and Jack Maloy of Friendswood were named the Athletes of the Meet for Swimming. Rachel Wright and Michael Claunch of Friendswood were named the Athletes of the meet for Diving.

Congratulations to Sydney Gurry, Sadie Wilson, Jack Maloy, Daniel Theall and Matt Wall who all earned four gold medals during the swimming competition.

The top 6 finishers in each event during the competition will move on to compete in the Region 6 – 4A Swimming and Diving Championship Meet to be held on February 6th – 8th at the Don Cook Natatorium in Sugar Land.
