We had an amazing week at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this past week!! We took 13 students and Heifers to the show and what an amazing job these students did! Houston has a contest for all FFA and 4-H clubs called Good Herdsman. It is for the clubs that keep their stall area and Cattle well kept and who also work together as a team to keep their area and cattle neat, clean and educate the public on livestock and FFA. There are about 300 clubs and 4-H chapters at the rodeo and Friendswood FFA won 1st place this year!!! We have been in the top 10 for several years but this year we WON! It is a major accomplishment for these students so please if you see any of them congratulate them on a job well done!!! Nobody did it better than Friendswood!!!
We also had Nick Peden (with the help of Bryce Giles showing the baby calf) win his class and the division of his breed this weekend!!! This is one of the largest livestock shows you can compete at so you can imagine how excited he was!!
Tatum Garvin competed against 200 other FFA members in a public speaking contest at the Houston show this weekend and won 2nd place! This was the first time she competed at a major competition and to come in top 10 is an amazing accomplishment but to come in 2nd show what type of speaker this young woman is!!!
Maddy Kimmel won her class in the swine show and went on to win Reserve Champion Heavy Weight dark cross. She will go onto the Grand Drive at the end of the week.
FFA students also sold programs during the rode on Wednesday night, they must wear official FFA dress and all proceeds from the programs that they sell comes right back to our chapter. The HLSR doesn’t take any of the proceeds for themselves. Never a dull moment during livestock showing time!
Our Barn Open House is March 22, 2014 from 10:00am – 2:00pm Come out and enjoy games for the little kids and see how hard al these FFA students have been working to get their animals ready for show!
