Lacrosse in FISD to host state tournament

lacrosseFriendswood High School has been chosen to host the 2014 State High School Division I and Division II Lacrosse Tournament. The Tournament will be held the weekend of May 3-4, 2014 at Henry Winston Stadium (702 Greenbriar Friendswood, TX) and will draw over 2000 spectators from Friendswood and across the greater Houston and Texas regions.

Both local and statewide audiences will be in attendance.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States.   The community is invited to ome out to see what its all about.  Semifinals will be held on Saturday with the finals scheduled for Sunday morning and early afternoon.

Friendswood’s lacrosse program has been growing steadily since 2006.   In addition to a city youth league, Friendswood Junior High fields both a 7th and 8th grade team and Friendswood High School fields a women’s lacrosse team along with Junior Varsity and Varsity men’s teams.

Friendswood’s program has some experience with hosting high-profile events.   Last year the organization hosted the Lone Star Alliance Division I and II collegiate-level  lacrosse playoffs including teams like the University of Texas and Sam Houston State.   They also hosted the State High School Tournament in 2009.
