FISD names Top 10, Chamber honors them

JanakTrishWith graduation less than a month away, the Top 10 Friendswood High School students have been named. Each extremely active, there is not enough space  to print everything they do in and out of school. Recently, the group was honored by the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce for their academic success.

dJanakValedictorian for the Class of 2014 is Derek Janak. He will be attending Texas A&M University this fall to major in Electrical Engineering. He has been selected by the university to study abroad in Italy for the summer. Janak was on the State winning Academic Decathlon Team and was one of 6 on the FHS team of 9 highest scoring individuals in the nation who recently competed winning three medals at the National meet in Hawaii.

roma PradhanRoma Pradhan is the FHS Salutatorian. She will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and major in Computer Science and Molecular Biology with a minor in Business. Eventually she wants to practice medicine, conduct research about the applications of technology in the medical field and work on global health outreach. This summer Pradhan will attend the 2014 Governor’s Science and Technology Champions Academy. Pradhan is also a member of the State Champion Academic Decathlon team.

Jamie McCullough is third in the top 10. McCullough plans to major in Aerospace Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin Engineering Honors Program. She has played soccer for 12 years and was on the State Qualifier team at FHS 2012-2014 as well as the State Qualifier Cross Country Varsity Runner 2011-Nathan Tat has chosen science as his career choice but has not chosen his university at this time. He achieved 12 years of perfect attendance. He will compete this summer at Health Occupations of America (HOSA) National Leadership Conference in Florida.

Julia Conger will attend The University of Texas at Austin Honors Engineering program to major in Electrical Engineering. At FHS, she is the founder and first president of the Tap Club and was very active in Thespians, Math, Science, Drama, Choir and French Clubs.

George Neagu is planning to take a pre-med program in the Honors College at the University of Houston. He has participated in band for four years and plans to learn to do 3D printing this summer.

Caroline Landon will attend the University of Pennsylvania to study Chemical Engineering. She will travel to Peru with her family this summer and mentor a Girls Engineering Camp. She is the founder of Book Buddies, a club whose members record children’s books on MP3 players and donate to local organizations.

David Bordelon will attend The University of Texas at Austin to major in business. He played soccer and was in the Band. Andrew Porter will attend The University of Texas at Austin to major in business. At FHS, he was on the drumline, played soccer and was a member of National Honor Society.

Annie Chen will study Biochemistry at The University of Texas at Austin Health Science Scholars Honors Program. Her community service hours include work with the Chinese community and her church, animal shelter, local blood drives, breast cancer awareness activities and Stand for Freedom against human trafficking/slavery around the world.

Now FISD will watch each reach success. The best is wished for all FHS graduates!
