Three forensics competitors who competed at the State level were honored at the May FISD Board of Trustees meeting by Board Member Tony Hopkins (right). One of the three is going to Nationals. Dylan Dickens will represent Friendswood at Nationals in June. He qualified in three events for the National Speech and Debate tournament, but can only compete in one event. This is his third year to qualify for the NFL National Tournament. Daira Brayley and Kevin Hodge won fifth place at the 4A UIL State CX Debate meet. Their coach is Cheryl Ryne (second from right).
Friendswood High School Seniors Joann Karam (not pictured) and Justin Vu (left) were honored at the May FISD Board of Trustees meeting. Trustee Robert McCabe (right) recognized the students for their tennis accomplishments: District Champions, Regional Champions and third place at the State Tournament.
The Friendswood High School Wranglerettes were honored at the May FISD Board of Trustees meeting. At Crowd Pleasers Competition in March, the Wranglerettes were named National Champion Team Members and both Dance Officers and Social Officers National Champions.
Friendswood High School Class of 2014 Valedictorian Derek Janak (left) was recognized by the FISD Board of Trustees at their May meeting by Board Member Dr. Matt Robinson (right). Janak will be attending Texas A&M University, majoring in Electrical Engineering. He has been selected by the university to study in Italy this summer. Janak was on the State champion Academic Decathlon Team and was one of six members of the FHS team who competed at the National meet.
Janak also ran track and cross country, participated in Science Club, competed in UIL Math and UIL Ready Writing.
FHS Salutatorian Roma Pradhan was also honored, but not able to attend the meeting. Pradhan is in Los Angelos taking part in the International Science Fair.
Garrett Cragin, FHS senior, (left) was honored by FISD Trustee Tony Hopkins at the May Board meeting for making it to the State competition in High Jump. Cragin, new to Track and Field, won the District and Regional championship for 7 foot high jumps. He also set new records for FHS in the event. At State, Cragin came in eighth place at State.
For the first time, FISD FFA students won the Good Herdsman Award at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2014. The students and their teachers were honored at the May FISD Board Meeting by Dr. David Montz (right) and Superintendent Trish Hanks (left). The award given to one school at the Houston show each year has 300-400 schools vying for the award. FISD students were honored for their work with the animals at the show, the enviroment of the animals and the knowledge shared about ag science by the students with visitors.
Friendswood students excelled at the Family Career and Community Leaders of America competition in April and were honored at the FISD May School Board meeting by Trustee Dr. Matt Robinson. Amy Peryam competed in Live Event Planning, Taylar Gomez competed in Fashion Design, Ashley Cao and Rachel Cao competed in Promote and Publicize FCCLA and won fourth place. Felicity Yiu and Gabby Le competed in Environmental Ambassador and won first place. They advance to the national competition in San Antonio in July. Their sponsors are Melissa Schwartz and Linda Smith.
Five golfers who advanced to the State Golf Tournament, Aron Hetsko, Harrison Slone, Bryce Dooley, Robert Todd and Daniel Bradley were honored at the May FISD Board Meeting by Trustee Mike Shaw (right). This is the first time in the past 29 years golfers from FHS advanced to State.
