FHS/FJH ImPACT Concussion Baseline Testing

danFHS Athletics, High School News

Purpose:  In conjunction with the Houston Methodist St John Concussion Center, to evaluate the cognitive abilities (e.g., memory, reaction time, attention) of athletes involved in sports using ImPACT, a test taken on the computer. ImPACT takes 25 minutes and provides information concerning one’s cognitive abilities and daily symptoms before a concussion occurs. This is considered a baseline test. If a concussion is suspected, then a follow –up test can be administered to see if scores have changed from the baseline test. This information can help to objectively determine when it is safe to return to sport competition.
