The Class of 1995 is being honored at Homecoming and one FHS graduate that year Richard Ramsey has a new milestone to share with his returning friends. His first movie, The Song, is in theatres now.
Ramsey is a former FHS teacher in broadcast news and as a student, involved in both the FHS Theatre and UIL One Act Play program.
Ramsey has written and directed a screen play that had a September 26 major release by Samuel Goldwyn Films. The premier was held recently.
The movie, The Song, is a music driven love story inspired by Song of Solomon and has been complimented on its story by area friends and community members.
It stars Alan Powell, lead singer of Anthem Lights, as aspiring singer-songwriter Jed King who reluctantly accepts a gig at the local vineyard harvest festival, only to find himself in love with the vineyard owner’s daughter Rose (Ali Faulkner, Twilight: Breaking Dawn).
After they marry, he pens The Song for her and it becomes his breakout hit, but at the same time as his music career propels forward, he has to face all the temptations that come with it. Trouble brews when fellow performer Shelby Bale (Caitlin Nicol-Thomas, Nashville) comes into his life.
“The Song is a great movie and it makes me so proud to know it was written and directed by an FHS graduate in the theatre department. That shows how great that department is and we in FISD are proud of Richard Ramsey,” Friendswood realtor Alan Stanfield said. “I hope everyone sees the movie. It is really good.”
With a BA in Theatre from the University of Houston, Ramsey spent his early career impacting the independent film world in Texas. The Song movie marks his first feature as a writer/director.
Ramsey lives in Louisville, KY where he serves as Artistic Director of City on a Hill Studio. He and his wife have four children, all named after Beatles songs. His parents live in Friendswood.
