On Tuesday April 21, 2015 Friendswood High School  Musical Performed the musical number, “ Step In Time”  from their 47th annual Musical Mary Poppins.
As the Act I Finale to the Tommy Tune Awards at Houston’s Hobby Center, our students received a standing ovation and thunderous applause at the end of their 4 minute number.

The Directors of the FHS MUSICAL are please to announce that our show after receiving ten nominations:  Best Musical, Best Leading Actress, Audrey Mckee, 2 Best Supporting Actress, Jana Landers and Anne Balderamma, Best Musical Direction, Best Stage Crew and Technical Execution, Best Lighting Design, Best Ensemble, Best Orchestra, Best Choreography and Best Direction.

The FHS Musical brought home the Tommy Tune Award for Best Orchestra under the Direction of Julio Sanchez and Senior Audrey McKee won BEST Actress for her role as Mary in Mary Poppins. As Best Leading Actress, our Audrey McKee will go on to compete at the national level for the JimmyTM Award at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City on June 29. This award was established in 2009 and will include bring the country’s best high school performers. These students have earned the chance to compete on Broadway and are named after Broadway theatre owner and producer, James M. Nederlander.

Here is Senior Audrey McKee’s acceptance speech for Best Leading Actress:
“Hello Everyone!  First off I would like to thank The Tommy Tune Awards for this incredible award.  It was such an honor to play such an iconic role.  Thank you to the cast, crew, pit band and everyone who was involved in the making of Mary Poppins.  You all made this truly an unforgettable experience for me. To my wonderful and truly inspiring directors, friends and family, thank you for pushing me, believing in me and giving me the chance to bring this magical story to life.   Last of all I would like to thank God for blessing me with this incredible experience.  I think the only thing left to say is :  THAT THIS NIGHT HAS BEEN ‘PRACTICALLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.’ Thank you!

The 2015 Tommy Tune Awards winners have been announced! To a crowd of over 2,600 people, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) declared the winners of the 13th annualTommy Tune Awards on April 21 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Created by TUTS in 2002, the Tommy Tune Awards recognize and reward excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers. After evaluating the 45 participating Houston-area high school productions during the 2014-15 school year, a team of 30 Houston-based theatre professionals made 164 nominations in 15 award categories.
