2015 VB Season

danFHS Athletics, High School News

The Friendswood Mustang volleyball teams concluded the 2015 season at Clear Brook HS last night. The freshmen battled tough ultimately falling to the Wolverines while the JV had no trouble getting the win. The varsity gave it their all in hopes of make it to the post season but ultimately fell short in a 5 set heartbreaker 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 18-20. Shannon Murphy had 20 kills & 27 digs and Kelly Colwell added 26 kills of her own. Sarah Thomas contibuted 60 assists. It was truly outstanding spirit, hustle, and determination by all.

For the season, the Mustangs finished 25-17. While it’s always tough to lose the last one, we had some definite highlights this year. This season’s team made it to the single season record board by statistically passing up the 2013 season record of 1,945 overall digs with 2,062 digs on the year. Both Juniors Shannon Murphy and Kelly Colwell have made it to the offensive record board as well with contributing 513 Kills and 476 Kills this season to place 2nd and 3rd overall in the Friendswood record books. Sarah Thomas passed her own record with 1,332 assists on the season. Some other key highlights on the season: defeating Clear Lake High School for the first time since 2012, winning big over back to back regional champ Clear Falls High School, and having top two 5 finishes at tournaments.

Off season will begin soon and along with it comes planning for the future. With our JV having an outstanding year and bright spots in the freshmen class, the future looks solid for the Mustangs. Our 24-6A district is well-known for it’s volleyball but there are no doubts the Mustangs will soon be well known in 6A volleyball.

Our coaching staff and athletes sincerely appreciate the support we have recieved this season. We are reminded continually of the fantastic team we have here at Friendswood High School by the work you do with these kids. Please let us know if their is anything we can ever do to help!

Thanks & Go Mustangs!
