Purpose: In conjunction with the Houston Methodist St John Concussion Center, to evaluate the cognitive abilities (e.g., memory, reaction time, attention) of athletes involved in sports using ImPACT, a test taken on the computer. ImPACT takes approximately 25 minutes and provides information concerning one’s cognitive abilities and daily symptoms before a concussion occurs. This is considered a baseline test. If a concussion is suspected, then a follow-up test can be administered at the Houston Methodist St John Concussion Center to see if scores have changed from the baseline test. This information can help to objectively determine when it is safe to return to sport competition.
Who: Any FHS or FJH athlete that has not already completed an ImPACT Baseline test within the past 2 years.
When: Baselines will be administered by appointment on Saturday October 31. To schedule an appointment, please contact the FHS Athletic Training Staff BEFORE October 30.
Cost: Baseline evaluations are FREE for athletes, 7th-12th grade, at Friendswood High School and Friendswood Junior High.
All tests will be administered in Computer Lab 609 at Friendswood High School by appointment only on October 31st.
