FHS Wins Girls and Boys Swimming and Diving Region 6–6A Championship Titles

The Region 6–6A Swimming and Diving Championship Meet was held on Feb. 4th – Feb 6th at the Pearland Aquatic Center. The Lady Mustang team consisted of 2 divers: Camille Hamilton and Audrey Sweeney and 8 swimmers: Katie Kosinski, Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati, Sadie Wilson, Allie Hansen, Allison Proulx, Chase Massey and Brittany Morgan.  The Lady Mustang divers started the meet by competing on Thursday evening and finishing in 5th and 8th place. The swimming competition started on Feb 5th with all 8 Lady Mustangs swimming and all 8 Lady Mustangs advancing to the Finals competition on Saturday Feb. 6th. The Lady Mustangs won 5 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 1 Bronze medal during the swimming competition. With points awarded for the top 16 finishers, all the Lady Mustangs contributed to the final team score of 316 which clinched the Region 6–6A title for the Lady Mustangs. Clements High School placed 2nd with a team score of 294.5 and Pearland High School placed 3rd with a team score of 224.

The Mustangs competition also began with diving on Feb. 4th. Michael Claunch and Isaac Rodriguez represented the Mustangs during the diving portion of the meet. Michael earned a total of 453.70 points for his 11 dives performed earning him a Gold medal. On Feb. 5th, James Tomerlin, Nico Monroig, Daniel Theall, Mark Theall, Woody Connell, Sinjin Sharma, Jonathan Nguyen, Nick Schmutz, Josh Haffelder and Thomas McHenry competed in the first day of the swimming competition with all 10 Mustangs advancing to the Finals Competition on Saturday Feb. 6th.   The Mustangs brought home a total of 5 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 1 Bronze medal. With all 12 Mustangs contributing to the team score of 311, the Mustangs clinched the Region 6–6A title. Clear Falls High School placed 2nd with a team score of 271 and Clements High School placed 3rd with a team score of 255.

6 New Friendswood Team Records Set at Regional Meet:
Katie Kosinski, Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati and Sadie Wilson set a new team record in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.51.
James Tomerlin, Nico Monroig, Daniel Theall and Mark Theall set a new team record in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:34.80.
Mark Theall set a new team record in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:40.75.
Daniel Theall set a new team record in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:54.18.
Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati, Sadie Wilson and Katie Kosinski set a new team record in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:36.93.
Daniel Theall set a new team record in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 59.22.

The State Swimming and Diving Meet will be held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center, University of Texas at Austin February 19th and February 20th. Competing for the Lady Mustangs will be: Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati, Sadie Wilson and Katie Kosinski. Named as alternates for the State Relays and also traveling to Austin are Brittany Morgan, Chase Massey, Allie Hansen and Allison Proulx. Competing for the Mustangs in Austin will be Michael Claunch, Daniel Theall, Mark Theall, James Tomerlin and Nico Monroig. The Mustang relay alternates are Woody Connell, Nick Schmutz and Thomas McHenry who will also travel with their team mates.
