Swimmers and Divers Compete in 6A State Championship Meet

State Swim Dive Team

The 6A State Swimming and Diving Championship Meet was held February 19th and 20th in Austin at the Texas Swim Center. The Friendswood High School State Team included 15 swimmers and 1 diver.

Katie Kosinski, Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati and Sadie Wilson placed 11th in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:49.77 and 12th in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:39.29. The Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay of James Tomerlin, Nico Monroig, Daniel Theall and Mark Theall placed 10th with a time of 1:36.01.

Katie Kosinski, Sydney Gurry, Mark Theall and James Tomerlin also competed in individual swimming events. Katie placed 9th in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.22 and in the 100 Yard Freestyle Katie placed 10th with a time of 52.31. Mark placed 15th in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:43.37 and in the 100 Yard Butterfly Mark placed 13th with a time of 50.96. James Tomerlin tied for 14th place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 52.62 and Sydney Gurry placed 14th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.34.

Michael Claunch represented Friendswood in the 1 Meter Diving Event. Michael placed 8th overall with a total of 420 points for his 11 dives performed.

The Friendswood Girls finished the meet in 21st place with 41 points and the Friendswood Boys finished 20th with 33.5 points. Coach Little on his team’s performance: “I thought the team did a great job of competing. It was a tough championship season and the team really made me proud of them.”
