Friendswood High School PTO paired up with the high school’s culinary arts program to host the first annual Cake Wars. Cake Wars is a morale booster for the FHS teachers.
Fifteen teams battled for first place in best taste, most creative, and best display. The teachers had a blast judging and nibbling the offerings. FHS culinary arts teacher
Melissa Schwartz helped her students channel their inner Chef Duff to create some truly interesting cakes. The ice cream cone melting on top of the cake won first place.
Everyone was impressed with the Reese’s peanut butter cup cake’s ability to defy gravity. This ingenious cake was made to look like a bag of Reese’s were spilling on to the top of the cake. The barnyard cake was truly notable for its attention to detail –even the cake layers were colored to match the barnyard animals on top. The
pistachio strawberry cake was the first to be devoured. Liz King, assistant librarian, said that the Friendswood blue velvet cake was very tasty indeed.
At the end of the day the teachers and students had a good time and the students could be very proud of a job well done.
