The Friendswood Academic Decathlon had a tremendous showing at the state meet this past weekend in San Antonio. With a group of novices and one returning letterman, they went focused and determined to improve their 10th place state meet ranking (from their posted regional score). The FHS AD team surprised everyone. They place 3rd in the overall team division in this 6A competition. They passed some impressive schools along the way–Dobie-4th, Coppell-5th, Clear Lake–6th and Pearland 7th. Most teams either maintained their score or dropped from their regional score. But not us. We made an historical jump of 3100 points from regional. We are so proud of them.

They posted the highest math scores in 6A state ( Way to Go Fred Lewis!!)
They posted the highest subjective scores ( speech, interview, and essay) in the state. Thanks to all who judged speech and interview in our practice sessions!!! We have such great community support.

They won 12 individual medals.
They placed 4th in Super Quiz.

Each team member won 500 dollars in scholarship.

Hannah Xia won an additional 700 for placing 5th overall in the state.

Joachim Bendixen placed 6th overall missing a scholarship by 7 points. ( Lesson–every queston counts!)

“I cannot say how great these kids were and fortunate we are to have Elizabeth Woodley and Fred Lewis as coaches. Thanks to Mark Griffon and Trish Hanks for traveling to San Antonio to support us. Now, it is catch up time in classroom before USAD announces the topic for next year,” said head coach Renae Simons.
