Friendswood High School’s Physics, Tech Principles, Engineering and Computer Science classes experienced a US Navy STEM Tour “Nimitz” virtual reality simulator on March 6 and 7.

“I really felt like I was actually driving a boat,” said Friendswood High School Junior Justin Maxcey, an aerospace engineering student. “I could look in all directions and feel certain parts of the ride. It was very fun!”

This state-of-the-art immersive mobile unit, with a “Special Warfare Combatant Craft-Crewmen” allows students to experience first hand training such as using the controls, utilizing a Oculus Rift head-set and other cool gear to perform a combat action extract scenario, visit with Navy sailors, and participate in physical training challenges and other technologies woven throughout the event.

All students must provide a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian before participating in the experience.
