The new school year in FISD began August 9 when all staff reported for work at a school wide convocation.

Approximately 700 staff gathered in the Dr. Myrlene Kennedy Auditorium at FHS to hear new Superintendent and Alumni Thad Roher welcome everyone back to school with an inspiring reminder of who we are as Mustangs and how to Unleash Mustang Pride as Friendswood Independent School District.

Before the program, breakfast was served for all attending.

Roher introduced Board of Trustee members who were present Rebecca Hillenburg, David Montz, Robert McCabe, Tony Hopkins and Ralph Hobratschk. FHS teacher and U.S. Veteran Colonel Jon Hall lead the faculty in the pledges, and FHS Choir sang the National Anthem.

On August 7th, new teachers were welcomed to the district and boarded buses to walk Friendswood’s School Museum to experience the history of the district and before meeting their mentors for lunch at the Green Event Center hosted by FISD’s Education Foundation. Kelly Hall, Vice President of Harvey Construction and FISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year Kimberly Hall reminded the new teachers how important their role is in the lives of kids.

This year Westwood Elementary and Friendswood High School Musical will celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
