Message from FISD Superintendent Roher

WebmasterHigh School News

Friendswood ISD has been working closely with the City of Friendswood Office of Emergency Management, Harris County Department of Education Emergency Management and Houston / Galveston County area school Districts to make determinations about school and activity closures in the coming days. Conditions are constantly changing with this storm making long range decisions very difficult. Because things are changing so rapidly, it is important to keep checking your email, the District website, social media links, and any other District correspondence for information frequently from this point on.

I wanted you to hear from FISD before the end of school today about Friday and Monday. However, we have a 7:00 p.m. conference call and things could change at that point or even Friday morning. If something changes this evening, we will send out to all of you before 10:00 p.m.

At this time, FISD plans to hold classes for the full day on Friday, August 25th. However, all after school activities on Friday and through the weekend have been canceled. Please continue to monitor school communications through the day on Friday for any changes that may be required through the day. At this point in time, it appears that classes can be completed and students returned home prior to the arrival of the higher winds and flooding threats.

The District will monitor the situation through the weekend before making a decision on classes for Monday, August 28. District officials will continue to meet with Friendswood’s Office of Emergency Management through the weekend and drive the roads in Friendswood on Sunday afternoon before sending out information to all regarding classes for Monday.

I want you to be informed and to know that we take the safety of our students and employees very seriously by making the most informed choices we can on something that is so unpredictable.

Stay tuned,
Thad J. Roher
Superintendent
Friendswood ISD
