Spring National Signing Day

Eleven Friendswood High School athletes signed letters of intent on National Signing Day Feb. 7 on campus. The eleven consist of (sitting) Joel Borman (Boys Lacrosse at Mars Hill University), Priya Ponia (Basketball at Centenary College in Louisiana), Jake Yurachek (Football at Colorado University), Kyle Harner (Soccer at Florida Southern University) (Standing) Thomas McHenry (Swim at Florida Institute of Technology), Luke Adams (Boys Lacrosse at Elmhurst.), Nick Swaney (Football at A&M Commerce), Max Yarbrough (Football at University of Louisiana Lafayette), Reid Nickerson (Football at Yale University), Wyatt Hall (Football at Davidson College) and Ben Redding (Football at SMU). Joining them were Athletic Director Robert Koopmann and FHS Principal Mark Griffon.


Priya Ponia, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Centenary College in Louisiana. She was named to Academic All-District, Varsity Co-Captain, and was named to the 2016 All- Tournament Team. She is President of Best Friends Club (2018,2017 and 2016), a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Technical Honor Society, PALS and was a recipient of the FHS Behind the Scenes Award in 2016. Ponia is joined at the signing by her parents, Don-Yae and Anuj Ponia, her brother Anil Ponia and FJH Coach Josh Fritts and FHS Coach Daron Scott.

Luke McAdams, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play Boys Lacrosse at Elmhurst College. He was named 2017 Offensive Most Valuable Player and Best Attackman in 2016. McAdams was joined at the signing by his parents Robert and Sherry McAdams, his sister Mary McAdams, grandparents Teddy and Shirley Key and Coach TJ Benson.

Joel Borman, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play Lacrosse at Mars Hill University. He was All-District Honorable Mention 2017. Borman was joined at the signing by his parents Robert and Theresa Borman and Coach TJ Benson.

Kyle Harner, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Florida Southern University. At FHS, he was 24-6A 1st Team All-District and Galveston County 3rd Team All-Countya and was named to the Olympic Development Program South Texas Team -Region 3. He was joined at the signing by his parents Greg and Marianne Harner, his sister Bryanne Harner and Coach Stephen Peter.

Thomas McHenry, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to swim at the Florida Institute of Technology. While at FHS, he was named 1st Team All-District, State Relay Qualifier 2018, 2017 and 2016, Region Finalist 2018, 2017 and 2016 and holds the team record for the 200 Free Relay. He was joined at the signing by his parents Garth and Dawn McHenry and his Coach John Little.

Wyatt Hall, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football at Davidson College. At FHS, he was 1st Team All-District 2017 and 2016 and 2nd Team All-County 2017 and 2016. Hall was a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. He was joined at the signing by his parents Kelly and Charlotte Hall, his sister Lily Hall, Coaches Jamie Crocker, Gary Mullins, Ted Thomas and Athletic Director Robert Koopmann.

Reid Nickerson, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football at Yale University. At FHS, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Link Crew, Math and Science Club and PALs. Nickerson was named 1st Team All-District, 2nd Team All-County, Academic All-State Elite Team, Finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club Scholar Athlete and 2016 All-District Honorable Mention. He was joined at the signing by his parents Joe and Lisa Nickerson, grandparents Anita and Brad Mapes, grandparents Doug and Darla Ferguson, his sister Riley Nickerson and his uncle Taylor Mapes.

Jake Yurachek, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football for Colorado University. At FHS, he was All-District MVP, Galveston County Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Houston Area and 1st Team All-State Padilla Poll. He was a member of National Honor Society and played Varsity basketball. He was joined at the signing by his mother Jennifer Yurachek, his brother Brooks Yurachek, Coach Jamie Crocker and Athletic Director Robert Koopmann.

Ben Redding, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football for Southern Methodist University. While at FHS, he was 1st Team All-District and 1st Team All-County. He was a member of PALs, Salute our Soldiers, Math Club, Interact Club, Fishing Club and played Varsity Basketball . Redding was joined at the signing by his parents David and Kristen Redding, his grandfather Bud Barker and Coach Brian Bielamowicz, and Athletic Director Robert Koopmann.

Nick Swaney, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football for A&M Commerce. At FHS, he was 2nd Team All-District. Swaney was joined at the signing by his parents Keith and Angie Campbell, grandmother Mary Swaney, and Coach Brian Bielamowicz, and Athletic Director Robert Koopmann.

Max Yarbrough, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football for University of Louisiana Lafayette. While at FHS, he was and 1st Team All-District 2017 and 2016 (unanimous), 1st Team All-County 2017 and 2016, and Vype Top 100 Houston Area. Yarbrough was joined at the signing by his parents Boyd and Leslie Yarbrough, his grandfather Bud Barker and Coach Brian Bielamowicz, and Athletic Director Robert Koopmann.
