Sixteen Friendswood High School athletes signed letters of intent on May 9, 2018 on campus. The sixteen athletes consist of (sitting) Bri McGown – Panola College (volleyball), Grace Hahn – Mississippi College (softball), Emily King – Simpson College of Iowa (Tennis), Zeyanna Dhalla – William and Mary College 2nd Row from left to right- Ryan Vera – University of Texas - Dallas (baseball), Brandon de la Fuente – Coast Guard Academy (Track), Spencer Russo – Trinity University (Baseball), Elijah Martinez – Dean College (Basketball), Mason Barnes – University Incarnate Word (Football), Sean Tracy – Southwestern University (Lacrosse), Nick Calapan – Austin College  (Water Polo), 3rd row- 

Alex Dehoyos – Schreiner University (basketball), Sam Wittman – Mars Hill University (Lacrosse), William Kehres – Schreiner University (Boys Soccer) , and Brodey Beckman – Schreiner University (wrestling). Joining them were Athletic Director Robert Koopmann and FHS Principal Mark Griffon.


Mason Barnes, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play football for University of Incarnate Word. He was named 2nd Team All-District and received the Roy Carroll Big Heart Award. Barnes was joined at the signing by his parents Brent and Tina Barnes, sister Mary, and Coaches Corey Truman and Robert Koopmann.

Brodey Beckman, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to wrestle for Schreiner University. He was named Co-Captain-2016, 2017, 2018, UIL All-District 6A 182 lbs Champion 2017 and 2018 and UIL Region 3 Qualifier 2017, 2018. He was joined by his parents Roy and Felicity Beckman and Coaches Matt Byrd and Steven Griffith.

Evan Birsinger, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play soccer for University of Dallas. While at FHS he was a member of the National Honor Society. Birsinger was named to the 1st Team All-Region, Team MVP, District Defensive MVP, Academic All-State, and 1st Team All-District.   He was joined by his mother Michele Birsinger, sister Gabby Birsinger, and Grandfather George Lind.

Nick Calapan, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play Water Polo for Austin College. He is a member of PALs. He was named 2017 Co-Captain FHS Water Polo team, 2017 2ND Team Region Water Polo, 2018 Co-Captain FHS Water Polo team, 2018 1st Team District Water Polo, 2018 1st Team Region Water Polo, and 2018: 1st Team State Water Polo. He was joined by his parents Alex and Sandy Calapan, Coach John Little, Coach Jeff Otten, and Coach Joe Sloan.  

Brandon de la Fuente, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to run track for the Coast Guard Academy. De la Fuente is a member of the UIL Mathematics Team, National Honor Society and a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar and Mu Alpha Theta and on the 2017 Dive Team. While at FHS 2018 Pole Vault District Champion, 2017 Diving state qualifier, National Hispanic Merit Program Scholar, UIL Math 2018 District Champion team member. He was joined by his mother Linda de la Fuente and Coaches Bruce Bolden and Steven Haffelder.

DehoyosAlex Dehoyos, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Schreiner University. He played baseball his freshman year and is a member of Student Council. Dehoyos was joined at the signing by his mother Maria, brothers Nick and Rudy, sister Lauren, grandparents and former coach Jeff Keener, AAU Coaches Rodney Dupre, and Meecah Van Buren, FHS Coaches Cliff Owens, Casey Devers, and Caleb Marburger.

Zeyanna Dhalla, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for The College of William and Mary. Dhalla is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Math and Science Club. She was named 1st Team All District 2017, Second Team All Galveston County 2017, GHVCA All Greater Houston All Star Team 2017, Academic All District 2016 and 2017, The Chronicle's Player of the Week 2017, District Honorable Mention Team 2016, TAVC and TGCA Academic All State 2017. She was joined by her parents Amin and Salima Dhalla, and coaches Sarah Paulk, and Kristin Goodman and Shayna Sauers.

Grace Hahn, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play softball for Mississippi College. Hahn was joined at the signing by her parents Ben and Beth Hahn, sister Rachel, brother Trey and FHS Coaches Christa Yates, Kevin Parr, Corey Truman, and David Accardo.

William Kehres, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play soccer for Schreiner University. Kehres was named to the 2018 TASCO All-State Academic Team. He was joined by his parents Will and Gina Kehres and Coach Stephen Peter.

Emily King, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play tennis for Simpson College of Iowa. She is a member of the Drama Club, Officer of Thespian Troupe, in One Act Play, and a member of the National Honor Society. King was awarded the Tennis Team Scholar Award, Top 6% of Sophomore Class; Junior Year: Top 7% of Junior Class, UIL Regional Technical Crew Award, UIL Theatrical Design State Qualifier; Senior Year: Top 10% of Senior Class, National Merit Commended Student, Tennis Team Good Character Award, and McLean Scholarship Award for musical crew member. She was joined at the signing by her parents Bob and Liz King, and Coaches Brittany Campbell and David Cook.

Elijah A. Martinez, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Dean College. While at FHS he was a member of the Art Club, and Math and Science Club. Martinez received the Basketball 3D Award and the Dean College Honors Scholarship. He was joined by his parents Cesar and Charlena Martinez, brother Daniel, former, and AAU Basketball Coach Meccah VanBuren.

Aubrielle (Bri) McGown, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Panola College. McGown is on the FHS Link Crew and a member of Fellow Christian Athletes. While at FHS she was named 2nd Team All-District, Honorable Mention All-District, and 2016 JV MVP. She was joined by her parents Doug and Amber McGown, sister Elle, Coaches Sarah Paulk, Shayna Sauers and Kristin Goodman.

Spencer Russo, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Trinity University. While at FHS he was a member of the National Honor Society. Russo was joined at the signing by his parents Joe and Amy Russo Jr., brothers Matthew and Jaxson Russo and FHS Coaches Cory Benavides and Steve Hecker.

Sean Tracy, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play Lacrosse for Southwestern University. He was joined by his parents Sean and Shannon Tracy.

Ryan Vera, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play baseball for University of Texas at Dallas. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He was named 2017 All-District Honorable Mention and All-Houston Area Honorable Mention. McGregor is joined at the signing by his parents Harvey and Lori Vera, and Coaches Steve Hecker and Cory Benavides.

Sam Wittman, Friendswood High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play Lacrosse for Mars Hill University. He is a member of the Friendswood Fishing Club. Wittman was joined at the signing by his parents Dave and Anne Wittman, sister Emma and Coach TJ Benson.
