Mrs. Powdrell is a former director of the Houston Shakespeare Festival Conservatory with the University of Houston Mrs. Powdrell is the UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE SPONSOR EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNER for 2008. Mrs. Powdrell was also the Founder’s Award Winner 2008 for Texas Educational Theatre Association.
Kathy Powdrell has served on the Board of Directors as President Elect for The Texas Educational Theatre Association. She also served TETA Theatre Convention Programming Chair for three years, K-12 at Large board member and as a member since 1978 only taking time off while living overseas.
Recently Mrs. Powdrell has directed at Texas A&M University Theatre Camp on the Coast in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Mrs. Powdrell directed the Summer Theatre Workshop at the University of Texas, Austin for six years where she also taught acting for non majors.
Mrs. Powdrell has over 30 years experience as an actress, singer, director and teacher. Mrs. Powdrell graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the College of Educaton and Theatre from the University of Houston. Recently Pod studied Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance at London’s Globe Theatre after winning a fellowship from the Houston Branch of the English Speaking Union. Mrs. Powdrell has directed numerous State UIL One Act Plays, full-length plays, musicals, improvisation shows and community theatre productions. She is a member of TETA, The International Thespian Society, National Organization for Teaching Tolerance, has served on FHS Site Based Committee, Texas Coalition for Quality Arts Education and T.S.T.A. Most recently Mrs. Powdrell received the Lillian B. Rhoades Texas Excellence Award as an outstanding High School Teacher. Mrs. Powdrell also teaches for The University of Texas, where she has taught acting for non majors each summer and serves as the associate director of The Summer Theatre Workshop conservatory. While at UT, Mrs. Powdrell directed for the Summer Theatre Workshop and the Texas Young Playwrights. Mrs. Powdrell is a mentor teacher for TETA and has taught workshops for TETA, UIL SUPER CONFERENCES and the Short Term Summer Theatre Workshops at UT for High School Teachers.
Mrs. Powdrell lives in Friendswood where she and her husband Earle have raised their four children. She, with her husband Earle, are advocates for Stroke Survival and Spinal Cord Injuries. Recently, they advocated before the United States House and Senate representing Texas for the National Spinal Chord Injury Association in Washington, DC in June of 2012. She is honored to teach at Friendswood High School.

Amy R. Thornton received a B.A. in Theatre from McMurry University and an M.F.A. in Acting/Directing from Texas Tech University. She has taught at Texas Tech, Louisiana State, and Littlefield High School. This is her 18th year at Friendswood High School. Amy has acted in over 40 plays and musicals. Directing experience includes Alice in Wonderland, The Good Doctor, The Music Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Our Town. Amy is a member/past member of TETA, TETAAO, SWTA, NETA, TCTA, and the International Thespian Society. Amy is married and has a son, Nelson.
