Under the rules of the Affordable Healthcare Act, qualified substitutes and hourly employees are eligible to obtain healthcare coverage. Friendswood ISD provides health coverage to employees through TRS-ActiveCare.

TRS requires you to work an average of 10 hours per week to maintain eligibility for benefits. Hours worked for other school districts are not considered in determining whether a substitute or hourly employee is eligible for benefits through Friendswood ISD.
New substitutes have 30 days from your hire date to enroll in coverage. Returning substitutes must enroll or decline each school year.
If you decline coverage, you cannot enroll again until the next plan year unless you experience a special enrollment event. The district does not contribute to the monthly premiums.
