FHS alum, author Adam Holt speaks to FJH 7th graders about writing, publishing two sci-fi books

Friendswood alumni and author of two books, Adam Holt spoke recently to seventh grade students at Friendswood Junior High Pre-AP English/Language Arts classes.

Holt discussed the writing process and his two novels, The Conspiracy Game and The Rathmore Chaos. Both books are science fiction genre and include his character Tully Harper.

Fantasy and science fiction became his favorites during his childhood in Friendswood. His dad worked for NASA in Mission Control during the time of the Apollo missions. Space and human space exploration were regular topics for him and his family.

After FHS, he attended Baylor University for his undergraduate degree and SMU for his graduate degree. For 10 years, he taught English at Greenhill School in Dallas.

On his blog he refers to his leaving that job.

“I quit a perfectly good teaching job to write full time. Life is too short not to take risks, and this one was worth it. I’m writing fiction to refocus our collective attention on the possibilities of human space exploration. And because space rules,” Holt said.

In his website bio, Holt wrote about himself:

He travels abroad when he has time and money, loves Victor Hugo and C.S. Lewis, respects Rick Riordan, and loves the crunchy boom of a rocket launch.

His second book, Rathmore Chaos, was released March 24, 2015. He will be a guest author at Space Center Houston April 25, 2015 to launch the new book, the sequel to The Conspiracy Game.

At FJH, the following teachers had Holt speak to their classes: Laurie Spangle, Tammy Ditta, Cheryl Petrovics, Adria Weger, and Nicole Ferro.
