The start of school is right around the corner and FISD has several important changes to share.
Windsong Intermediate’s traffic pattern will change this school year. The change is necessary to speed up the bus pickup and drop off lines. The new route will also help to speed up dismissal at Windsong since all buses will be waiting for the dismissal bell and not be arriving at staggered times.
The district plans to communicate this information to parents by mailing home a detailed letter explaining the changes along with a map and scheduled reminders through the district messaging system.
School start and end times have changed for some FISD schools. Cline Elementary, Westwood Elementary, and Bales Intermediate will begin school at 8 am and will end at 3:05 pm. Windsong Intermediate’s hours will be from 8:15 am – 3:20 pm and Friendswood Junior High and High School will be from 8:45 am – 3:50 pm.
Bus routes have also changed from previous years. In a response to the time changes and in an effort to operate more efficiently, the Transportation Department has re-routed the entire District.
The FISD Transportation Department requests parents allow two weeks of school to be underway to get routes settled. The two-week period provides time for bus drivers to determine which students and which locations will want bus transportation.
To do this, some delays are expected. Campuses are aware of the delays and students will not be counted tardy for their classes.
“Getting kids to school safely and efficiently is our top priority, said Superintendent Thad Roher. “These changes will allow us to do that, but change is always difficult at first. We have great parents and staff that will make it work, but we ask for your patience as we get school started.”
After the first two weeks, parents needing route information can contact the Transportation Department at 281-482-6025. FISD does not charge for transportation within a two-mile radius of the campus the students attend although the District does not receive reimbursement from the state.
Commercial daycare facilities can provide their own transportation to and from the campuses or can contract with the District for transportation.
The FISD Transportation is under the direction of Dean Lewis. The department supports the district’s educational mission by providing safe, orderly, positive, timely and efficient professional transportation services.
