The Friendswood ISD Communications Department attended the 2020 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) annual conference in Austin, TX from Monday, Feb. 24 to Thursday, Feb. 27. During their time at the conference, Communications Director Dayna Owen and Communications Specialist Kelsey Purcell earned several awards.
Purcell was named the 2020 TSPRA Rookie of the Year, a state-wide recognition that was selected by a committee of public relations professionals. The duo also earned eight Star Awards which are given to entries that are dubbed superior across 59 categories. Of these eight awards, Owen and Purcell earned five gold stars, two “Best of Category” awards for their Back to School Interactive Flyer and Out of the Blue Newsletter, and were Platinum award finalists, which is the greatest recognition one could earn at the conference.
Owen and Purcell also hosted a conference session over disruptive communication on Wednesday, Feb. 26 and were able to learn from peers’ sessions over the course of four days. Executive Director of the FISD Education Foundation Ashley Adair was also in attendance as a first-time attendee and said she looks forward to being eligible to submit FEF content at next year’s awards.
