The Bay Area Alliance for Youth and Families Coalition (BAAYFC) gathered with Friendswood ISD staff on Friday, Jan. 1 in the FISD Annex to celebrate their newfound partnership. The purpose behind the union was to bring awareness and take preventative action against alcohol, tobacco and drug consumption/use of minors in and outside of school.
“We started meeting with the administration here in Friendswood to talk about the ways the Alliance could serve this District,” BAAYFC Executive Director Amanda McLauchlin said. “We applied for some grants through the state of Texas that allowed us to expand substance abuse prevention for Friendswood, so we were happy about that.”
McLauchlin said she is grateful for how the partnership with FISD will allow the BAAYFC to reach more people.
“We’re super excited to be a part of Friendswood ISD,” she stated. “We’ve had such a warm welcome, so we’re really thankful.”
Approximately 50 people showed up for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. The first coalition meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce. For more information, please call the Alliance at 281-284-0370.
