Friendswood ISD joins a number of high performing school districts who have changed their high school class ranking policies. Board members voted unanimously in favor of changes to board policy EIC Local Monday, June 10, 2019. The vote capped an eight-month process of district research which included input from students, parents and staff. The research gathered supports the understanding that ranking Friendswood ISD students, outside the top ten percent, results in greater harm than benefit to students at all levels of achievement. EIC Local now states: Class rank shall not be calculated or reported except for students in the top ten percent of a given class as required by state law.

Attention Graduating Class of 2020 – Action Required The 2018-2019 final report cards were generated previous to the EIC Local policy change made on June 10th, therefore class rank was reported on the report card. It is important to understand, now that the change in EIC Local has been approved by the School Board, Friendswood High School will no longer certify class rank outside the top ten percent. During the process of completing college applications, be sure to indicate that Friendswood High School does not rank. Do not report the class rank reported on the 2018-2019 report card as this rank will not be certified based on the policy change. A Top 10% certification will be sent to colleges when a Top 10% student’s transcript is requested.
