Friendswood High School Signing Day

On Feb. 5, five Friendswood High School seniors signed their letters of intent on National Signing Day.

Braden DeCuir signed a letter of intent to play soccer for the University of Dallas. Another honor includes being named to the Team All-District Academic team for 2019. DeCuir was joined at the signing by his parents Brian and Erin DeCuir, brother Brodie and coach Stephen Peter.

Michael Black signed a letter of intent to play soccer for Trinity University. He was a 2016-2017 and 2019-2020 team captain. Black is also involved with the National Honor Society. He was joined at the signing by his parents David and Karen Black, sister Ana, aunt Elena Black, grandma Victoria Black, grandpa Ricky Zitopeak, and coach Stephen Peter.

Heidi Demel signed a letter of intent to play golf for St. Francis College. Her honors include 2019 District champion, two-time Regional qualifier, 2019 State qualifier, and five-time individual tournament winner. Demel was joined by her parents Peter and Rozette Demel, brother Ivan, and coach Scott Smith.

Elizabeth Schexnaider signed a letter of intent to play water polo for Wittenberg University. Her honors include third-team All-Regional. Schexnaider is also involved in the National Honor Society and the swim team. She was joined by her mother Cynthia Schexnaider and coach Craig Sikkema.

Catherine Sims signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track for Louisiana State University. Her accolades include team captain, FHS record holder in the 1600 meter run, MVP of the girls cross country team, two-time State qualifier, two-time District champion in cross country, Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State, TGCA All-Star Team, TGCA Legacy All-Star Team, Cross Country Coaches Association (CCCA) All-Region Team (2018 and 2019), and CCCA Academic All-State. Sims is also involved with the National Honor Society and Theatre Club. She was joined at the signing by her parents Nancy and Larry Sims, brother Jonathan, and coach Erik Thormaehlen.

Connor Haines signed a letter of intent to play football for Texas Lutheran University. His honors include first-team All-District, first-team All-County, and 2019-2020 team captain. Haines was joined by his mother Laura Haines, brother Austin, grandparents Donald and Linda Rhodes, and coaches Robert Koopmann, Bruce Bolden and Shane Deel.

Ryan Helton signed a letter of intent to play football for Stephen F. Austin State University. His honors include second-team All-District and second-team All-County. Helton was joined by his parents Chris and Heather, brother Cade, and coaches Robert Koopmann, Bruce Bolden and Shane Deel.

Trey Mappe signed a letter of intent to play football for Sam Houston State University. His honors include first-team All-District and second-team All-County. Mappe was joined by his parents Bryan and Michele, brother Trevor, granddad Leroy Mappe, and coaches Robert Koopmann, Bruce Bolden and Shane Deel.
