Friendswood ISD receives 15 TSPRA Communications Awards

The Communications Department at Friendswood ISD received 15 Texas School Public Relations Association awards including two Best of Category Gold Medals, five Gold Stars awards, three Silver Stars awards and four Bronze Star awards for excellence in school communications. The awards were announced at the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards Celebration on February 19, 2014 during the associationís annual conference held in Austin. FISD Communications Director Karolyn Gephart was present to receive the awards.
Best of Category involves deciding from Gold Star winners which was the best in the category and one award and medal are given to that item.
The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation won Best of Category for the Under the Big Top (Circus) Gala Image Identity Package for less than 10,000 students. Items in the Identity package were designed and created by Foundation directors Alan Stanfield and CiCi Newkirk.
The Education Foundation also won Best of Category in Special Event division. The event described for judging was the Under the Big Top gala and the entry was Letís Have a Circus Theme for our Gala!
Gold Star Awards were given for the Education Foundationís Annual Report, the holiday card teachers receive for having their grant adopted, gala programs, an image identity package for the gala, special event and published print advertisement. The ad was created by Jolly Ayrhart.
Silver Star Awards were presented for FISDís kindergarten/first grade round up poster, the FISD website, and the Thanksgiving card in the Holiday category.
Bronze Star Awards were given to Fast Facts Flyer about FISD, FISD Basic Facts Brochure, an invitation to the School Board Holiday Dinner in December, and the invitation for the annual Foundation surPrize Patrol.
Each year, TSPRA recognizes communicators in school districts, education foundations, education associations and organizations for their outstanding work in both print and electronic media. This year, more than 1000 entries were received.
Entries selected as best in the state were honored with Bronze Star, Silver Star, Gold Star and Best of Category Medals and Awards. Crystal Commendation Awards were presented for outstanding entries that featured special programs and events.
TSPRA, based in Austin, is a professional organization whose members are dedicated to improving public education in Texas by promoting effective public relations practices, providing professional development for its members, and improving communication between Texans and their public schools.
