Gifted and talented students at Westwood Bales conducted the third annual student led conferences for 1st– 4th grade students in the Westwood / Bales GT program and their parents. This year’s conferences were held in the Westwood Library May 23 from 6-7 pm.
Students were responsible for demonstrating this year’s learning to their parents as they reviewed portfolios and Student Performance Records. The students analyzed their progress and set goals for next year.
The goals of student led conferences are to encourage students to accept personal responsibility for academic performance; to teach students the process of self-evaluation; to facilitate the development of student’s organizational and oral communication skills; to encourage students, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue; and to demonstrate and record student’s progress over time.
The conference usually takes about 15-20 minutes and is a “come and go” format.
