JH Student attends Duke Program at UH

Ulrich asked to a secondDuke trip to UH


Joshua Ulrich was nominated to participate and was selected for asecond time to attend the University of Houston, TIP DUKE SCHOLAR weekend program on April 12-13 2014.

Several young students from the Houston and surrounding counties had this opportunity. Out of 130 kids selected, he was 1 of 80 accepted to go to the University of Houston main campus and take part in a weekend scholar. 

Ulrich chose Unleash Your Secret Gamer class from the Technology section. He got to work with JAVA programs and Gamesalad. Through this class, the students got to learn how to create characters, motion and understand the objects in how to achieve a beginning and ending.  

The classes started at 10 am Saturday and lasted till 8:30pm.   Those that stayed overnight, got to stay at the Wyndham in the Medical Center as part of this program.  On Sunday morning, they had breakfast at the hotel and returned to UH for another day packed of hands on learning and creating.

In addition to Ulrich being a Tip Duke Scholar,he is also active in the Friendswood Junior High National Honor Society, involved at his church (First Baptist of Pearland) and played Football for Friendswood Junior High. 

He will also register with UH Clear Lake for a 2014 summer program in Technology. 

Ulrich attended his first Duke program at UH in October 2013.
