Red Ribbon, National Character Counts Week underway

Red Ribbon Week in FISD is being celebrated from October 26-30. Again this year National Character Counts Week is celebrated along with Red Ribbon Week.

Character Counts has been a focus for the district K-12. “We continue to highlight a pillar of character each month. Many activities are planned throughout the year in conjunction with the monthly pillars. Red Ribbon Week allows us to shine a spotlight on both programs,” Assistant Superintendent Diane Myers said.

At Friendswood High School, different organizations have an assigned day throughout the week. Each day has a theme, an incentive as well as an activity. All the activities have been planned organized by the students.

Cline, Westwood, Bales, Windsong and FJH has theme days where students dress in conjunction with the theme.

Wednesday, Bales hosts Hometown Heroes, FHS role models come before school to lead the younger students in a pep-rally. These high school students come as early as 7:30 am to sign autographs and visit with the younger kids to encourage a drug free lifestyle.

Red Ribbon Week continues to be Friendswood’s largest awareness activity with respect to drug use. All schools continue anti-drug education throughout the year.

Many good things are happening on FISD campuses with respect to Character Education and Drug Abuse Education.
