Wednesday Warbles

If you’re looking for a community-building activity to encourage camaraderie within the school body, how about trying Wednesday Warbles? This gathering gives your school family a chance to gather as a group, pledge the flags together, say the Character Pledge to one another, and take a moment of reflective silence as a group.

Recognize birthdays, deliver morning announcements, maybe even select a class to join the Compliment Club. Classes nominated for this honor are showing model behavior as a team throughout the school in places like the hallway, specials classes, and the cafeteria. The winning class, chosen at random from your Compliment Club nominees for the week, could earn some read-aloud time with an Administrator and a quick break for their teacher.

The music teacher could lead a character or special-occasion song. You could also use this opportunity to celebrate weekly attendance. Crown a Prompt Prince or Princess (selected randomly from all of the students with no tardies for the week) to sit in a special “throne” for the day. Additionally, look at whole-class attendance and, when five or more classes have met our perfect-attendance (with no more than one tardy) goal, they stand up to be recognized because they’ve earned the Chicken Dance, performed by the Leadership Team. What fun it is to watch that attenDANCE celebration!

Donned in spirit or character t-shirts, students and staff add a touch school colors to Wednesday Warbles, which serves to enhance mid-week unity. Close your morning gathering with a spirited-version of the School Song, setting the tone for a wonderful Wednesday.
