FHS Fall Tennis season underway with tournaments

Tennis_Racket_and_BallsThe FHS tennis season has begun.

The Friendswood Mustangs kicked off their season with a loss to Clear Creek on Monday, August 19 by a score of 16-3.

Winning matches for the team included the doubles tandem of  Justin Vu (Sr) and Johnny Luu (Fr) who won a third set tiebreaker in boys #2 doubles.  Johnny Luu repeated the trick by winning his line of singles (4) in a third set tiebreaker also.  Brittany Vu (Sr) was the lone girl victor, winning at number 2 singles.

Competing well before losing matches in third set tiebreakers included our boy’s number 3 team of Cameron Norris (Fr) and Ryan Desbrow (Soph), Imran Siddiqi (Soph) at number 3 boys singles, and LB Labra (Jr) at number 3 girls singles.  Despite the lopsided team outcome, many of the matches were closely contested.

On August 21, the Mustangs traveled to Pasadena to take on the Dobie Longhorns.  The Mustangs improved their team record to 1 Win and 1 Loss by a score of 18-1 against the hosting Longhorns.

Imran Siddiqi (Soph) and Kishan Patel (Jr) won at boys number 2 doubles along with Cameron Norris (Fr) and Ryan Desbrow (Soph) at number 3 boys doubles.  For the girls side, it was a Mustang sweep led by sisters Brittany Vu (Sr) and Kaitlyn Vu (Sr) at number 1 girls doubles, LB Labra (Jr) and Michele Ngo (Fr) at number 2 girls doubles, and Sydney Chase (Jr) and Kathryn Dowless (Soph) at number 3 girls doubles.

The Mustangs clinched a 6-1 doubles advantage by also winning the mixed doubles match by Jordan Desbrow (Sr) and Paige Chisholm (Sr).

Following the doubles matches, the Mustangs swept all of the remaining singles matches.  Imran Siddiqi was stretched to a third set tiebreaker at number 3 boys singles before winning 10-3 in the tiebreaker.  Jordan Desbrow was also stretched to a third set tiebreaker at number 6 singles.

Justin Vu (number 1), Kishan Patel (2), Johnny Luu (4), and Cameron Norris (5) all won their singles matches in straight sets.  Kaitlyn Vu (1), Brittany Vu (2), LB Labra (3), Michele Ngo (4), Sydney Chase (5), and Paige Chisholm (6) swept to straight set wins in girls singles.

The Mustangs  capped off the week with three team matches over the weekend in the Fort Bend Tournament against Fort Bend Austin, Richmond Foster, and Deer Park.

Following this busy week, the team  has this week off from inter-squad matches before resuming play against Clear Brook on September 3.
