FHS Academic Decath team wins region with highest 4A score in state

Friendswood High School Academic Decathlon team brought home first place at their regional competition this weekend at Pasadena High School.  The team posted the highest 4A score in the state and will be heading to San Antonio to the state competition the week of February 17.

The team members are Derek Janak, Julia Lu, Roma Pradhan, Chase Ehrig, Daniel Miniot, Ramiro Garcia, Shannon Ney, Alex Briones,  Ray Monahan, Ben Bruce, Sean Jankowski, and Brooks Pettit.

The FHS students won 67 individual medals as well.  Particularly sweet, was the total sweep in math.  We won all 9 medals and were the only team 4A or 5A to do so,” AD Coach Renae Simons said.

Medal count included nine in Math, six in Science, five in Art, seven in Language and Literature, seven in Social Studies, seven in Economics, eight in Music, one in Interview, four in Essay, and four in Speech.

“Congrats to Daniel Miniot in Interview, kudos to Roma, Ramiro, Derek and Ray in Essay’s four medals, and great job to smooth talkers Roma, Derk, Shannon and Chase in Speech with Chase having a perfect score,” Simons said.

FHS AD coaches are Arden Curtis, Ashley Birmingham and Renae Simons.
