The Friendswood High School Wranglerettes have been invited to participate in the 88th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City this fall.
This is the first time the team has been given a prestigious spot in the annual New York parade.
“This is exciting,” Wranglerette Booster Club President Troy Lucas said. “This is really a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the girls.“
The 15-time National Champions are one of very few high school drill teams in the nation invited to perform at the parade. The team will perform, during the parade, in Herald Square in front of an estimated 50 million TV viewers.
“The Macy’s Parade is the showcase for the highest level of performance, so to be invited to participate in this historic event is flattering and exciting for us,” Director Ashley Marmaro said.
Their performance should last just over a minute, but it’ll be a proud moment for Marmaro who said the team will perform a traditional Texas High Kick Routine.
“We are so excited! This is the ultimate compliment. We are not only representing Friendswood High School, we are representing our entire community,” Wranglerette Allie Thompson said.
Macy’s does not cover any of the travel costs associated with the parade.
The Wranglerettes are raising money to pay for their trip to New York.
